A letter detailing the final pull from sales of the 'Oxfrod First Book of Maths'

PR23.2.2.2 (Redacted).jpg

A letter detailing that copyright has reverted back to Rose Griffiths for 'Magic Maths'.

Finally, once a book is no longer selling well a publisher will choose to remainder or 'waste' the rest of the books. This means pulling them from the shelves of stores, and in some contracts, as in the case of Rose, authors had the option of buying the rest of the books at a reduced price. Then, depending on the contract, copyright could revert to the author again, and they would officially own the ideas and the book again after the book was out of print. This is how the life of a published book eventually ends.

In the Rose Griffiths Archive there is correspondence and other documents that show the process of remaindering books. Highlighted here are a couple of examples that briefly shows the process.
