To begin the process an author needs to have an idea or goal they want to accomplish. Many of the works by Rose are for teaching maths to students at home with the help of parents or other caregivers. There also needs to be plenty of research into the age group to understand what the learning outcomes are for them, and then proper lessons can be planned at a standard level that children across the country are learning about. Rose sometimes used her own students to try out these activities to ensure they were enjoyable for children to do.
