Much like the student experience of today, University life encompassed more than academic study. Outside of the classroom, students enjoyed social dances (Hops), made new friends through societies, and became members of sports clubs.

Women have played a key role in the University’s sporting history. From the early years of the University College, the Women’s Netball and Hockey teams have dominated their fields – their legacy continues today. As the team kit has changed over the years, so too have attitudes towards women’s sporting activity within the University. The growth in team members, diversification of sports, and increased press exposure reflect this.
