The Student Experience

ULA_FG8_1_2.jpg

Students awaiting the arrival of the Prince of Wales, 1927.

Whilst aspects of student life such as University provided accommodation, and participation in student sports clubs have remained unchanged, the individual experiences of students throughout the decades have altered dramatically. Changes within British culture and society are reflected through the archive records of past students of the University. From its humble origins in 1921 to its continuous expansion in 2018, the voice of the female student in the University’s history remains present.

Our focus has been drawn to the following student experiences:

  • University accommodation (formally known as Hostels). The first, College Hall, was located on campus close to the Fielding Johnson Building and was for female residents only.
  • Involvement in University sports clubs, and participation in competitions and varsity matches.
