Description
The main article in this collection reports a Mrs Susan Waddington making a statement on successfully securing £43,000 of council funding to launch the Afro-Caribbean Centre.
The funding was won after a lengthy battle with member of the council who believed "no separate ethnic group should be favoured" when it came to the allocation of funds. However, it was successfully argued by Waddington that "if we turn our back on them [the Afro-Caribbean Community], other groups may not seek help.".
This piece also shows some other splashes related to the opening of the centre later that year.
