The bank holiday Monday it was a ritual whereby all of the local children or youths and girls, and families for that matter, we would walk from where we lived in New Road and we would walk to Bradgate Park, every bank holiday Monday. Not only would we walk there we would walk back and in between times run around the park so you can imagine that we’d be very, very tired when we got back. That would be our wonderful day out as far as we were concerned…because it was wonderful to get out there and in our minds hide among the rocks and this, that and the other, chase the deer, climb up to Old John…probably sit around, someone had a banjo, could play a banjo and we’d sing all the old songs sitting on top of the rocks.
