Mr Parker: “A fellow, whose name was Tommy Hood, started as a driver and finished up as a conductor on Humberstone – he was a character all of his own. And then there was another I mentioned at the meeting, called Happy Sam, a conductor on the Belgrave, East London and Western Park route, and he used to call out fancy names for the different stops. East Park Road, Evington Road corner, he called ‘Shady Lane’ or ‘Lover’s Lane’, and such names as that. He was a real character, a pleasant and congenial sort of chap.”
