During the war, I mean, crime was rife because we had black out regulations, thieves paradise. With all sorts of offences. Murders. Rapes. Serious assaults, you name it. Because of the blackout and that persisted right throughout the war, and of course I was in the. CID. So I could tell you many stories about the Yanks. Well, they were no worse, I don't suppose, than any of our troops who were serving abroad. But you see, they were very affluent. They’ve got the money. And a lot of the women here, their husbands who were away at the war. They were very lonely. And these Yanks used to make a fuss of them, used to wine them and down them.
