Talks about the aims of the service and how these services are important where it is difficult to take the children to museums. The Derbyshire education committee set up the School museum service in 1936 with a grant from the Carnegie UK Trust. Talks about how the function of a museum differs from that of a school. Discusses the benefits of the loans service. There is a history of the service and some details of how Derby museum cooperates with companies such as the BBC and the Museums Association. Talks about the items they have available for loan, how they catalogue them, and the people who borrow material and how they get it to them.
